The engine produces a maximum power output of 90PS at 7400rpm. That’s 90 per cent of the peak torque coming in with just a small throttle input! With so much torque at such low-rpm range, the motorcycle was able to go over the most challenging inclines and water crossings quite effortlessly. As a result, its peak torque figure of 110Nm arrives at 3,950rpm, with 100Nm arriving at just 2000rpm. This motor gets a dedicated ‘Scrambler’ state of tune with more emphasis on low-down torque. Triumph has equipped the Scrambler 1200 XC with a Thruxton-derived 1200cc High-Power parallel twin 8-valve liquid-cooled engine. Overall, Triumph has done a stellar job of concealing contemporary features behind the facade of a tastefully-done retro theme. Plus, you get all the information that you’ll ever need on your ride. The instrument cluster may look simple at first but take a closer look and you’ll realise it is shaped like a watch, and even the digitally-rendered ‘needle’ looks a lot like the way it is on wristwatches. There’s also a vintage-styled off-set Monza-style fuel tank cap, chopped aluminium fenders and neat scrambler-style high-set twin exhausts. For starters, you get a circular headlamp with bullet-style indicators and classic-style tail light - all housing properly modern LED units. If that wasn’t retro enough, look around the motorcycle and you’ll find plenty of bits that will take you back in time. Both colour variants get alternating layouts of matte and gloss finish on the fuel tank separated by a pinstripe. I got the black colour variant but it’s the British racing green colour (Triumph calls it Khaki Green & Brooklands Green) which takes the cake as far as authenticity is concerned. The first thing you notice as you swing your leg over the motorcycle is the simple yet elegant brushed metal strip running across the fuel tank. But Triumph being Triumph have really gone out of their way and paid a lot of attention to beautiful little details. Simply put, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC follows a properly no-nonsense scrambler design language to the T. However, if it is the off-road ability that you are looking at, the smaller-engined Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is a more competent rival from the Italian manufacturer. In the scrambler genre, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 almost matches the Triumph’s engine performance. The two bikes come to a halt using twin 320mm discs with Brembo radial calipers at the front and a 255mm rear disc. The XE model gets a fatter 47mm front fork, with 250mm wheel travel at both ends. The Scrambler 1200 sports Showa inverted fork and twin Ohlins shock absorbers - both fully adjustable, offering 200mm travel. The XE variant gets an additional ‘Offroad Pro’ mode along with cornering ABS and traction control. Electronic aids include five riding modes along with switchable traction control and ABS. It is paired with the same 6-speed transmission with an assist-and-slipper clutch as before. That said, the peak torque comes in at 4,500rpm (instead of 3950rpm) and power at 7,250rpm (instead of 7,400rpm). The 2021 iteration packs a BS6/Euro 5-compliant 1200cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, which churns out the same 90PS and 110Nm as before. You can read more about this 1000-unit limited edition bike in our launch report here. The Steve McQueen edition has been launched in India at Rs 13,75,000 (ex-showroom India). The two-wheeler has a traditional handlebar configuration and a prominent visor to ensure the best possible wind deflection. The 2021 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC and XE variants were unveiled earlier this month.

The circular headlamp configuration is accompanied up front by a set of retro-inspired indicators and rearview mirrors. The Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle appears to follow a classic aesthetic motif with a touch of modernization based on spy photos. Reports suggest that the bikes will be developed by Triumph while Bajaj will handle the production. The test mule of the bike spotted is the first of the bikes developed in their partnership. The bike is a result of a partnership between Bajaj and Triumph announced in 2017 to produce mid-level bikes for the Indian market. Based on the engine capacity and the looks, the bike will be a scrambler and will compete against Royal Enfield and Honda bikes with similar engine capacity. The bike is still in the development phase and has been spotted testing for the first time on Indian roads. Bajaj and Triumph are planning to launch a new 350-cc motorcycle in India.
